On Sunday, September 7th, 2025, the streets of Kampala will echo with the rhythm of footsteps, laughter, and music. But this will not be just another morning run. It will be the Mental Health Run, an event organised by Hearty Spaces to shine a light on mental health, fight stigma, and support affordable access to therapy and psychiatric care in Uganda.
For years, conversations around mental health have often been hidden in silence. Many people fear judgment, while others lack the resources to seek help. Hearty Spaces, a community dedicated to creating awareness and healing, is challenging that silence. By hosting this run, they invite everyone to step forward, both literally and symbolically, in support of mental well-being.
The run starts at 6:30 AM from Revive Wellness Clinic in Kololo and offers both 5km and 10km distances, making it accessible to both beginners and seasoned runners. With a participation fee of just UGX 30,000, every registered runner will receive a kit and become part of a movement that goes beyond fitness. Proceeds will directly fund subsidized therapy sessions and psychiatric interventions for people who reach out to Hearty Spaces. In short, each stride helps someone take their first step toward healing.
Yet, the Mental Health Run is not only about running. It is about building community through a mix of wellness and creativity. Participants can look forward to games by Qweshunga, soothing live music from Kabera Angel and jBAK Music, art therapy guided by Lern Mindfulness, and calming yoga led by Man With a Mat. A mental health panel discussion will spark important conversations, while free wellness tests will give participants a chance to reflect on their own mental well-being.

The Mental Health Run is more than running
The beauty of this event lies in its holistic approach. While the run raises awareness physically, the activities nurture the emotional and spiritual side of health. Together, they send a powerful message: mental health is not just about surviving, it is about thriving.
In Uganda, access to mental health services remains limited for many due to cost and stigma. By taking part in The Mental Health Run Kampala, participants are not only enjoying a Sunday filled with music, fitness, and fun, but also directly contributing to a cause that saves lives. Every registration, every raffle ticket, and every shared conversation creates a ripple of change that touches individuals, families, and communities.
