Dance for a Cause: Metro Oldies Fundraiser Supports Butoolo Health Centre

Kampala is gearing up for a unique celebration that blends nostalgia, music, and community service. On Saturday, September 6th, 2025, the Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan will host the Metro Oldies Fundraiser at Lazo Bar & Restaurant. While it promises the energy of old school music and 90s dance moves, the event carries a deeper mission: raising funds to equip the maternity ward at Butoolo Health Centre III in Kamengo, Mpigi District.

Rotaractors

Butoolo Health Centre III is a government-owned facility serving over 14,000 people directly, with its antenatal and maternity services touching the lives of hundreds of mothers each month. Despite its crucial role, the health centre struggles with worn-out infrastructure, limited medical equipment, and a pressing need for neonatal care resources. Recognising these challenges, the Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan has implemented a phased intervention strategy to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the region.

Phase one of this intervention focused on renovating the antenatal and maternity ward. The club upgraded the building structure, improved flooring, repainted walls, and replaced old windows to create a safer and more dignified environment for mothers. They also constructed a modern waiting shed for patients, ensuring comfort and protection from the elements. Beyond structural improvements, the Rotary Club provided critical medical equipment, including oxygen cylinders, a brand-new ultrasound machine, new maternity beds, and essential delivery kits.

The impact of these efforts has been profound. Mothers now have access to safer birthing facilities, and healthcare providers can perform their duties more effectively. Additionally, the club’s annual Family Health Day Camp offers free medical services to hundreds of community members, including immunisations, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and health education.

Despite these achievements, the health centre still faces urgent needs. The next major goal is establishing a fully equipped Neonatal Resuscitation Unit (NRU) to support newborns during the critical first moments of life. This unit will include neonatal incubators, oxygen flow systems, radiant infrared lights, resuscitation tables, and breathing assistance equipment, alongside laboratory tools to monitor maternal and fetal health. Such investments will provide newborns with a second chance at life, giving the community hope for healthier futures.

Metro Oldies Fundraiser

The Metro Oldies Fundraiser aims to bridge this gap. Unlike traditional charity events, it promises a lively and engaging atmosphere. Attendees can expect old school music, 90s dance moves, nostalgic vibes, and a crowd eager to celebrate life. The event also features delicious dishes and a full selection of drinks, making it a true night of enjoyment while contributing to a meaningful cause.
