NSG’s Sounds of the Diaspora Postponed Amid Ebola Restrictions

What was shaping up to be one of Kampala’s biggest entertainment events of the season has been put on hold.

Sounds of the Diaspora, the highly anticipated event headlined by UK-based Afroswing collective NSG and organized in partnership with Bandali Manor, has been postponed to a later date following the government’s latest public health directives aimed at curbing the spread of Ebola. The event had been scheduled to take place on June 6 at UMA Show Grounds and was expected to bring together music lovers for an evening celebrating African sounds, culture, and diaspora influences.

The postponement comes after the Ministry of Health announced the suspension of music concerts, entertainment shows, cultural festivals, public celebrations, and other mass gatherings in Kampala and several high-risk districts. The restrictions were introduced as part of intensified efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola following recent confirmed cases in Uganda and the wider region.

Over the past week, several concerts and large-scale public events have either been postponed or cancelled as event organizers adjust to the new regulations. The government says the measures are intended to reduce opportunities for close physical interaction and uncontrolled crowd mixing, which could increase the risk of transmission.

For many fans, the postponement is a disappointment, particularly given the excitement surrounding NSG’s return to Uganda. The London-based group has built a strong following across Africa through hits that blend Afrobeats, hip-hop, dancehall, and UK rap, making Sounds of the Diaspora one of the most talked-about events on Kampala’s entertainment calendar.

Bandali Manor has assured ticket holders and fans that further communication regarding the new event date and ticket arrangements will be shared in due course. Until then, organizers and attendees alike remain hopeful that the public health situation improves and that the celebration can return safely at a later date.

As Uganda prioritizes public safety and disease prevention, the entertainment industry finds itself navigating another period of uncertainty. For now, Sounds of the Diaspora joins a growing list of events waiting for the green light to bring people together again.
