Metro Oldies Fundraiser Raises Support for Mothers and Babies in Butoolo

On the night of September 6th, 2025, Kampala came alive with nostalgia, laughter, and purpose. The Metro Oldies Fundraiser, hosted at Lazo Bar & Restaurant by the Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan, turned out to be more than just an evening of old school music. It became a powerful reminder of how dance, joy, and generosity can transform lives.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere carried a unique blend of celebration and compassion. The crowd, drawn by the promise of old school beats and 90s dance moves, soon found themselves deeply moved by the stories shared about Butoolo Health Centre III in Kamengo, Mpigi District.

During the evening, Rotary members highlighted the strides already made in Butoolo. The renovated maternity ward, new beds, an ultrasound machine, oxygen cylinders, and delivery kits have already changed the lives of hundreds of mothers. The waiting shed outside the health centre now offers comfort for patients who once endured long hours under the sun or rain. These improvements created dignity and safety for mothers while making it easier for healthcare workers to provide essential care.

As the achievements rolled out one by one, the sense of gratitude in the room grew. Representatives from Butoolo expressed heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club. They spoke of how mothers now give birth in safer conditions and how babies have a stronger chance of survival. The message was clear: the work already done has made a difference, and the community feels the impact every day.

Even with all these milestones, the evening carried a sobering note. Rotary leaders reminded everyone that the journey is far from over. The next goal is a Neonatal Resuscitation Unit (NRU), a facility that will provide newborns with critical care during their first moments of life. With incubators, oxygen flow systems, resuscitation tables, and infrared lights, this unit could be the difference between life and loss for many families in Butoolo.

The fundraiser, therefore, was not just about celebrating what has been done. It was also about inspiring everyone to look ahead and join hands in making the next chapter possible.

Old school classics carried the crowd back in time, weaving joy into the seriousness of the cause. Attendees enjoyed a mix of good food, refreshing drinks, and unforgettable conversations. The laughter, the rhythm, and the generosity created a perfect harmony.
