The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon returns for its fourth edition on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Kasese. With over 6,000 participants expected, it’s set to become the largest and most impactful edition yet.

During the official launch at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, organisers emphasized the marathon’s transformation into a global sporting event. Over 2,000 Kenyan runners have already registered, highlighting the event’s rising international appeal and its role in sports tourism.

This year’s marathon focuses on four key pillars: talent development, healthy living, climate change awareness, and year-round tourism.
“As runners take on the scenic and challenging routes of the Rwenzoris, they will also champion a greater cause—climate action and sustainability.” said Amos Wekesa, CEO of Equator Hikes and lead organiser.

Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is more than running
The event includes eco-conscious initiatives like tree planting, sustainable water stations, and recycling zones. The melting glaciers of the Rwenzori Mountains serve as a stark reminder of the urgent climate crisis, making this marathon a platform for change.

Tusker Lite, the title sponsor, continues to support active and balanced lifestyles. “Our vision as Tusker Lite has been simple but bold: to deliver a wholesome and immersive experience for our consumers and support our wellness-conscious community to live actively and litely.” said Emmy Hashakimana, Head of Commercial at Uganda Breweries Limited.

Runners can participate in four categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and a 5 km Family Fun Run. Early bird registration runs until July 1st at UGX 50,000 for EAC residents and USD 50 for international runners.

The 2025 edition will also feature an expanded runners’ village and a high-energy Neon Rave After-Party powered by Tusker Lite. With local talents gaining international attention and partnerships growing stronger, this marathon continues to position Uganda as a premier destination for sports, wellness, and eco-tourism.
