KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda’s rugby scene kicks off a new chapter this weekend with the launch of the first-ever Kampala International 7s, proudly sponsored and named by Stanbic Bank Uganda. The tournament will take place May 31st – June 1st, 2025, at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere.

As the naming partner and lead sponsor, Stanbic Bank Uganda brings its commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and sustainability to the forefront of this exciting new rugby initiative.

The Stanbic Kampala 7s will feature 12 elite teams drawn from Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, all competing in a 3-pool format across two action-packed days. The tournament will conclude with the crowning of the first-ever Kampala International 7s champion.

International teams include Shogun RFC (UK) and the South Africa Academy All Stars, joined by top Kenyan clubs Kabras RFC, Menengai Oilers, Nondies RFC, and Strathmore Leos. Uganda’s strongest teams will be representing the home side, bringing pride and competitive fire to the pitch.

As part of its CSR initiative, Stanbic Bank is launching “Greening the Game”, a long-term sustainability campaign with a powerful message: “One Try, One Tree.” For every try scored during the tournament, a tree will be planted, contributing to an ambitious goal of 7 million trees over 7 years.

The campaign aligns with World Rugby’s Strategic Plan 2030 and Uganda’s national climate targets. It will officially launch at the event with a symbolic tree planting by team captains and a high-level stakeholder forum.

“We’re proud to support an event that not only elevates the game of rugby but also promotes values we believe in—resilience, excellence, and sustainability. The Stanbic Kampala 7s is an exciting milestone, and Greening the Game ensures its impact will be felt far beyond the pitch.” Ajiji Isaac, Stanbic’s Manager for Trade Marketing, Brand & Sponsorships.

The tournament promises an electric blend of sport and entertainment, with music, food, drinks, and Kampala’s signature rugby party energy flowing throughout the weekend.
